Daina Block is an interdisciplinary arts practitioner with extensive knowledge and experience in dance, theatre, design, film, editing, television production, music production, and script writing. She specializes in the practice of dance-making, performance and research where over ten years she has developed a process-based technique to reveal the body as a catalyst for critical thinking so that each project can evolve its unique performance language.
Originally from Australia, Daina has been recognized by the Australian Arts Council as an emerging artist and in choreographic achievement through the Laurel Martin scholarship program. Since her arrival in the United States, she has performed and choreographed in the Bay Area California, attained certification both in the Alexander Technique (AmSAT) and the Nutritious Movement® program (CPT-RES), and completed her graduate studies at Jacksonville University. MORE The culmination of Daina's creative and professional experiences has grown a collaborative movement arts practice she calls D<LAB, to enrich study, showcase or performance. With the intention of the 'LAB' greater than the individual and in part as a response to performers and teachers wanting a practice that would deepen their connection to their creative spirit, this vehicle for artistic inquiry serves to energize critical thinking and problem-solving intelligence through a process-based learning style.
From 2011-2013, Daina had the fortune of co-creating a nationally viewed youth acting improvisational game show called KidByteswhere she grew her interests in music and video production. Daina Block is an Arts Educator, Choreographer, Performing Artist, Mentor, Alexander Technique practitioner (AmSAT) and a personal trainer of Nutritious Movement® Certified Restorative Exercise Specialist (CPT-RES).
